  • We at The Drive love a good high-performance pickup truck, practicality be damned. And really, what's more practical than a truck that can smoke a supercharged Dodge Challenger from a rolling start still haul a big load of 2x4s back from Home Depot? This cat-and-mouse game between an early-90s Chevrolet C/K with an LS engine swap and a current-generation Dodge Challenger SRT 392 with a ProCharger kit was posted to YouTube over the weekend. While we'd much rather see this kind of action confined to the relative safety of a drag strip, at least these guys had the sense to pick an empty highway for their shenanigans. The video shows three pulls from a rolling start. You can hear the passenger-turned-cameraman in the Challenger calling out the countdown, and the roar between the truck's turbocharged LS engine and the Dodge's supercharged 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 is practically deafening. With the engine swap and the turbo, the Chevy has to be putting out at least 500 horsepo..

Ask me anything about how the back half of a 1999-2005 Volkswagen Jetta is assembled and I can tell you because I dismantled one to build a Smyth Ute. YouTube channel Warped Perception does similar things and adds a high-speed camera to capture how things work in super slow motion. One of the latest project from Warped Perception is based on a third-generation Mercedes E-Class that was already doomed for the crusher. He dismantles it far more than I took apart my Jetta to build the Ute in order to expose the car's inner workings to demonstrate how they function. This is a view we rarely get because the rest of the car is in the way, but once you cut up and remove body panels, your view is vastly improved. Many commenters were upset that this Mercedes was destroyed in this manner rather than parted out and recycled. "Due to legal reasons, it could not be parted or sold," says a comment on the video from the creat..

But no one can make that complaint about former Formula Drift champion Fredric Aasbø's Toyota 86-X, boasting up to 1,000 horsepower. That's Bugatti Veyron power in a significantly lighter car.Toyota UK teamed up with Aasbø for Donuts from Space, an effort to create a GT86 logo large enough to be seen from space using nothing but tire marks. "Even though I'm used to drifting my 86, I'm not used to using my car as a paintbrush," says Aasbø in the "behind the scenes" video.Rather than just making the wildest slides possible as he usually does, Aasbø had to follow very specific lines and geometry to leave his 86's mark in the shape of the 86 logo on the Millbrook Proving Ground skid pad. Fortunately, being Norwegian, he's no stranger to the Scandinavian flick and driving sideways. There's a lot to be said for precision, particularly when he drifts t..

  • There is no secret that the Dodge Challenger Hellcat is a rocket capable of hitting 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds and top out at a little over 200 mph. Unfortunately, that translates to temptation and sometimes irresponsible behavior. Several days ago a 25 year-old man by the name of Mohmed Ahmed Abu-Shlieba stole a white Dodge Challenger Hellcat around the Houston, Texas area. Soon there after, HPD initiated a pursuit of the vehicle, but was understandably were unable to keep up. As you can see in the video below, the Hellcat in question covered significant ground down I-10 and JCSO reported the vehicle surpassed 100 mph, but we are confident you could tack on another 60 mph for an even 160 mph during the daring pursuit. We all have joked the handling capabilities of the hellcat aren't exactly stellar, but somehow Mohmed does not lose control of his stolen Challenger as he irresponsibly weaves through traffic filled with semi-trucks, minivans and other startled civilians.Fort..

Narrow, fast, and with more elevation change than some entire countries, Mount Panorama is among the trickiest of tracks in the world to get just right, as the faster you go, the closer you find yourself to the looming concrete walls, especially at the top of the mountain. The prestige of mastering the mountain is enough to give every driver who races on it the courage to grab their car by the scruff of the neck in the hopes of landing themselves on pole.In the race's qualifying shootout, a high-stakes one lap affair in which the race's top ten qualifiers compete to secure the highest grid position possible, Scott McLaughlin of DJR Team Penske, driving his Ford FG X Falcon, took pole position with a lap that mirrors the infamous "Lap of the Gods" set by Greg Murphy in 2003.McLaughlin's lap, a 2:03.831, beats the previous V-8 Supercars r..
