  • After failing to address repeated problems with its vehicle certification process, Nissan has officially announced that it will suspend production of all domestic vehicles sold in the Japanese market. This comes only weeks after Nissan issued a recall for all vehicles sold in the market over the past three years. The recurring problem revolves the continued final inspection and certification of vehicles being performed by individuals who are not authorized by Nissan to complete these final checks. It goes deeper than just the wrong person signing off, as the technicians were reportedly impersonating certified technicians by using their stamps to sign off of the inspections, according to Reuters. A meeting in September with the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport revealed that these checks were not in compliance with the regulatory requirements set forth by the Japanese government, which resulted in the automaker issuing a voluntary recall of 1.21 million vehicles...

  • Samsung said on Wednesday that its 8nm FinFET process (8nm Low Power Plus) technology is ready for production. The 8LPP node, the company said, will provide up to 10 percent lower power consumption even as it takes up to 10 percent less area compared to 10LPP.Even as 8nm Low Power Plus will serve as a stop gap solution to Samsung before it moves to 7nm process next year, 8LPP offers a range of improvements. 8LPP will provide differentiated benefits for applications including mobile, cryptocurrency, and network and server, and is expected to be the "most attractive process node" for many other high performance applications, the company said.Samsung said it expects 8LPP to rapidly ramp-up to the level of stable yield by using the tried and tested learnings from 10nm process technology. "With the qualification completed three months ahead of schedule, we have commenced 8LPP production," said Ryan Lee, Vice President of Foundry Marketing at Samsung Electronics.Lee added, "Samsung Foundr..

  • The next generation of 'Vettes may be arriving sooner than we thought. According to the Bowling Green Daily News, the 2019 model year version of the Chevrolet Corvette will enter production at the sports car's Kentucky factory on January 29th, 2018. The news came tucked away deep in a longer story regarding the Bowling Green factory's imminent November 6th reopening, after a multi-month reset designed to retool the plant to build new models. The facility will go back to cranking out 2018 Corvettes for two and a half months until concluding that run on January 22nd, according to the paper, at which point the GM plant will begin the process of switching over to the new model. The million-dollar question, though, is just what that 2019 Chevy Corvette will look like. The eventual arrival of a mid-engined Corvette is pretty much the worst-kept secret in the automotive universe these days, but it's entirely unclear just when said mid-engined 'Vette will make its gr..

  • U.S. Industrial Production Rebounds Slightly More Than Expected After reporting a notable decrease in U.S. industrial production in the previous month, the Federal Reserve released a report on Tuesday showing production rebounded by slightly more than expected in the month of September. The report said production rose by 0.3 percent in September after sliding by 0.7 percent in August. Economists had expected production to edge up by 0.2 percent compared to the 0.9 percent drop originally reported for the previous month. The Fed said the continued effects of Hurricane Harvey and, to a lesser degree, the effects of Hurricane Irma held down production growth by a quarter of a percentage point in September. The bigger than expected increase in production was partly due to a significant rebound in utilities output, which surged up by 1.5 percent in September after plunging by 4.9 percent in August. Mining output also climbed by 0.4 percent in September after slipping by 0.2 perce..
