The University of Michigan is scheduled to release its preliminary report on consumer sentiment in October at 10:00 am ET Friday. The consumer sentiment index is expected to edge down to 95.0.

Ahead of the data, the greenback slipped against its major rivals.

The greenback was worth 111.78 against the yen, 0.9719 against the franc, 1.1865 against the euro and 1.3309 against the pound as of 9:55 am ET.
