Chelsea and Manchester United have both spent big on star strikers but dabblebet expect the 24-year-old Belgian to outperform his Spanish counterpart
Amid the myriad of sub-plots which are set to play out over the coming weeks and months in the Premier League, there is a battle between Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata as far as the odds compilers are concerned, with obvious parallels between the two players.
Chelsea had been expected to swoop for Lukaku and bring the former Chelsea player back to Stamford Bridge but the 24-year-old chose to reunite with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United instead in a move that could be worth up to £90 million.
The Blues then turned to Morata, who had previously been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford after Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s departure was confirmed.
With both subject to huge transfer fees and set to lead their respective teams' attacking lines into the new season, it’s an interesting head-to-head matchup. Chelsea, who are 3/1 (4.0) shots in the Premier League winner market, sit just ahead of Manchester United who are available at 7/2 (4.50).
The two players may only clash twice directly in the Premier League this season but the bookmakers have already had their say on who they believe will fare better from a goal tally perspective.
Lukaku is a solid second favourite in the Premier League top scorer market at 4/1 (5.0) with dabblebet, but is also 8/13 (1.62) to outscore Morata in a goals-based match bet. This is just one of several special Goal specials on the site which also include 100/1 (101.0) on the reigning champions going through the season unbeaten, 125/1 (126.0) about United achieving the same feat and 15/8 (2.88) on Arsenal winning any major trophy.
The Belgian fell just short of Harry Kane in the race to be crowned top scorer last season, hitting 25 goals in 37 games on Merseyside. Overall, he has netted 85 times in the top flight at a ratio of 0.46 goals per game.
On the other side of the wager, Chelsea's new frontman, who has had success on the fringes of Real Madrid and Juventus over the past couple of seasons, is 6/5 (2.20) to outscore Lukaku during his debut season in the Premier League.
Those who believe the Spain international will hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge can take a quote of 8/1 (9.0) on him leading the top-flight scoring charts at the end of the campaign.
The main reason for the two-time Champions League winner being the outsider compared to his opposite number seems to be the relatively low number of appearances over the past few seasons.
Having started no more than 16 league games since the 2012-13 campaign, Morata has a total of 44 starts in four years in Madrid and Turin compared to Lukaku's 133 in the same time frame.
What Morata does have is top-class experience in European competition, not something that can be said of a player who has spent most of the past few seasons at West Brom and Everton.
This promises to be a fascinating clash but it's clear that dabblebet expect the Manchester United man to have a better debut season for his new club.
